About

Eat my tortes! is a blog dedicated to food, travel, and photography.

We are a couple of twenty-somethings who love to eat, travel, eat, eat, eat, and come up with recipes for more things to eat!

This is our very first blog, and our first venture into photography. We hope it inspires you to spend more time in your kitchens and around your dining tables with good food and wine, and the company of your closest friends and family.

I love cooking, not so crazy about baking.

I love my rescue cats. I would rescue dogs if I had a garden, and goats if I had a farm. It just happens that right now cats are best suited to my apartment

My favorite color is raspberry. Yeah, it’s a color.

My favorite place that I’ve traveled to so far? Istanbul. Doner kebabs, an ice-cold Effes by the Bosphorus, and some of the most beautiful historical buildings in the world. What could be better?

My dirty little secret? I watch Top Chef. And I love it.

One of the best things in life is sitting in a café in a piazza in Italy, drinking an espresso and eating a cream brioche.

I think I might be in love with Nigella Lawson. Oh, and Anthony Bourdain.

Who do I aspire to cook like? My mom or my teta—my dad’s mom.

I have a soft spot (like, a HUGE soft spot) for chocolate. Dark please, no milk.

The one thing I can’t stand in the kitchen? Curry leaves. Come on, change my mind, I challenge you!

Well I have no idea what S. is on about with her “Rescue Cats”. The last thing I saw them rescue was a slice of salami from my sandwich the other day. They are good for the occasional cuddle though.

I’m originally from New Zealand although I did a quick calculation and I’ve only spent half my life actually in that country, so how much claim to it I have I’m not sure.

I’m currently experiencing what I think is known as a quarter-life crisis where I have decided none of the things I have until now doneare what I actually want to do, hence this website among other things.

As you can tell I mostly stick to taking the photos here, but occasionally try my hand at the cooking too.

If there is one thing I know about food that I would like to put out there it is that everything tastes better and more satisfying if you cook it yourself. Obviously this excludes the really atrocious things you make when you mess it up, but barring excessive human error, home cooked food is just better. And for the guys, there are few things that impress a girl more than a man with kitchen skills.
